So what’s Pepper been doing? Where’s Sif? How’s Maria doing? Has Helen Cho rebuilt her cradle? Where did Jane disappear to and did she take Darcy (plus intern) with her?

Problem: the ladies have vanished.

Hypothesis: they are running a secret sort of team. The Protectors.

Pepper is the fiery rage (and funding everything), Sif is the talented warrior, Maria the experienced secret agent. Jane does research and Helen heals everything. Darcy makes sure they’re all fed and rested. Also, that none of them interact with the public. Plus intern as the unconventionally handsome token man. Kate discovers them after following Pepper on a call as she rushes away from a gala. One day, a secret message comes from Wakanda.

*wiggles eyebrows*

Hey, Marvel!! Did you read this? Because that’s what we want!!

Bring on the kick ass ladies getting shit done, not just being replaced and forgotten.

Let’s all take a moment of silence for anyone who has to work retail the next couple of months.. And please remember that as busy as the holiday seasons are, and you might be in a hurry, your cashier/other employees are working really hard to make you happy and also have feelings like you. 🙏🙏

An additional moment for those in packing, sorting, and shipping jobs, those who spend eight mind numbing, back breaking hours a day getting your holiday stuff to your house. The labor that goes into working at Amazon, UPS, FedEx, etc is miserable so please appreciate the work they do

A further moment for all us call centre drones, skipping all or part of special days with their families because someone needs to be on the line in case you lose your credit card doing your last minute shopping, or that new iPad/tv/console etc you bought you child isn’t working right and now your Christmas is ruined.

STOP HAVING WHITE VOICE ACTORS PLAYING NON-WHITE ROLES

image

stop depriving non-white actors opportunities to act and get recognized!

Voice actors often don’t know who they’re reading for or what franchise they’re in (that’s what the strike was recently about, so they’d know whether they were in a small first time game or the 4th installment of a major franchise, if they were replacing a beloved voice actor, etc.) so please don’t harass the actors, until recently they legally didn’t have the right to know who they were reading for and were usually not told until months or even years later.

Definitely go after casting, directors, and studios executives. Those are the people making the decisions.

Example of a VA not knowing (and getting screwed on top of it).

They still don’t have the right to know. They got fucking nothing out of that strike. They can know the code name (which might be a serial number or whatever) and if it’s a sequel. That’s it. That’s the extent of the “transparency” they won from the strike.

As a perfect example of this controversy, if you haven’t looked up interviews surrounding Laura Bailey as Nadine Ross, it’s worth it.

Laura Bailey herself explained that when she auditioned for the role, she was given no information about what the character looked like. It was only after she was hired and arrived for recording that she was shown concept art and discovered the character was a WOC. She was uncomfortable about the situation.

Meanwhile, Neil Druckmann revealed that they were already working on concept art of the character when they hired Laura Bailey. They finalized the character’s design as a WOC after they’d hired a white voice actress, so that was a conscious decision. He was also very flippant about the situation as a whole.

Like people above have said: Yes, whitewashed casting is a legitimate and real issue. But unlike actors in film and stage, voice actors are often totally blind to what they’re auditioning for. They get fucked by NDAs and legal red tape bullshit. Go after the casting directors and execs and high-position game devs that knowingly make these decisions.

Great point that not a lot of folks realize right away.

If I recall correctly, part of the conditions that actors were fighting for during the last strike was to have more advanced knowledge of the parts they were reading for.

Yep, there were 4 main things if I Remember rightly

1. More knowledge of what the part/game is beforehand because

a. Their agents can’t negotiate properly if they don’t know the scale of the project

b. They had no opertunity to vet the content and decide if it’s something they want to be a part of, ie people were getting cast and then shown the script full of sexual content, racism, homophobia etc. So your options are to do the script as is or risk being blackballed for being unreliable.

2. Appropriate vocal rest breaks and limits on how much intensive sessions can last without one. I.e. not doing hours of shouting, death noises etc that might damage the vocal cords and ruin other work, as many actors work multiple projects at once or just after each other.

3. If the role also involves doing mocap there should be stunt co-ordinatiors on set during anything that may be dangerous and proper practice time with them first.

4. Residuals, ie if the game sells really well there should be additional payments for hitting certain milestones. This was one of the most contentious ones as a lot of the non unionised parts of game development such as the programmers don’t get this, but it being industry standard for one of the departments actually might have opened the door for that to be negotiated.

concept: an austen-inspired tabletop rpg where there are five classes

  1. single man in possession of a large fortune who is in want of a wife
  2. young woman with low connections who must marry so that she can secure her future
  3. cad whose main goal is to convince someone to elope with him
  4. wealthy, scheming woman whose goal is to ruin the happiness of the aforementioned young woman
  5. tiresome & vulgar elderly busybody (can be either a man or a woman)

I’m gonna split this out a little farther, because I feel like we’re blurring the lines between classes and stats. First you should pick your Austen class:

  • Bachelor/Bachelorette
  • Cad / Floozy
  • Husband/Wife
  • Matriarch/Patriarch
  • Busybody

Then you roll for your stats across the 6 basic Abilities:

  • Money
  • Intelligence
  • Connections
  • Manners
  • Looks
  • Snark

Argh, compulsion to make something from this high! Not sure if it could be one of those 1 page rpgs or a fate mod…

this one’s for all the fat girls who’ve cried in dressing rooms 💗

You’re fine. The clothes are made to be easy to manufacture on machines, not for bodies. The clothes suck, not you.

They’re also manufactured to look attractive on hangers, and very few of us are shaped like hangers. You’re fine.

😱😰😭😭😭😭😭😭😭thank u please more of this type of body positivity I need it

Legit though! I’m a hobbyist seamstress and these are my experiences when shopping mainstream:

For example, most H&M blouses these days don’t even have boobdarts. Which means they will sit awkwardly on literally anyone with boobs, no matter the size. But on hangers or when folded on display? They look fab as fuck. Because hangers don’t have boobs. And the models chosen to show them on the catwalk are usually chosen for their lack of boobage too (unless it’s for lingerie), other requirements including ridiculous size and weight requirements. As for the average (EU available) clothing shops, the worst offender I’ve encountered yet was Zara. Everything’s way too long and way too flat: clearly aimed to look good on the catwalk models but not intended for normal people. At all.

Also sizes are just numbers. Shopping online has taught me that I’m a European M, an American XS-S, and a Japanese L-XL. And then these sizes even vary from shop to shop in the same country: I’m an XL at Apples but an S at Lola&Liza, for example. They’ve also been reducing the sizes of these numbers throughout the years to make people feel bad about themselves and to sell more weight-loss products. Don’t let a number get you down, it does not define you.

So please don’t feel bad about yourself when shops refuse to cater to your size. The clothes they sell are not aimed at real human beings. They are the ones in the wrong here, not you!

Can I add, I think it’s also very telling that when I buy new clothes I normally have to get 18-20 but my old size 14 t-shirts still fit fine. I think clothes are getting smaller

It’s not limited to regular size stores either, changes in cut in the same store can be dramatic. Yesterday I walked into Simply Be wearing a pair of regular cut size 22 jeans from them, as they only had skinny cut or jeggings in stock  the new jeans I bought were 26s, and my 22s are only at most 6 months old and slightly baggy.
